In 1160 AH, simultaneously with the late Afsharid era, the governor of Yazd, built a garden that was used as the residence of contemporary rulers at the same time as Karim Khan Zand. Dowlat Abad garden has become famous as eye-catching and today is considered a valuable memorial from Afsharid and Zand periods.

Dowlat Abad Garden was located outside the fence of Yazd city, and the northern side of the garden led to a street full of trees. The number of these trees was such that they prevent seeing from outside into the garden and created a space for everyone in the garden out of any view from the outside. that street was also famous for a thousand trees.

With the expansion of the city during the Qajar period, this garden was connected to the four-minaret gate (one of the gates of Yazd) but was still outside the city limits. Over time, the city grew bigger and filled the urban context around it. During the Pahlavi era, with the expansion of construction in the countryside, buildings around the garden were located, and gradually the garden turned into a place in the center of Yazd.

Where is the Dowlat Abad water supply?

Water was the most important element for the construction of this garden, and for this reason at the beginning of the work and before the construction of the building, they built a 65-meter-long aqueduct to transfer water to Yazd and the current location of the Dowlat Abad garden.

Dowlat Abad historical aqueduct is one of the most important and longest aqueducts in Yazd, which has five disciplines and originates from the Mehriz highlands. After digging the aqueduct and bringing the water to the garden, a government complex or a domicile was established there. Buildings, ponds, waterfalls, and pomegranate and grape trees one by one were added to this space to create one of the most eye-catching works in an area of ​​70,000 square meters.

Dowlat Abad Aqueduct is the main source of water supply for the Dowlat Abad garden, which played a vital role in its greenery and refreshing area. Today there is nothing left from the water of these aqueducts, and the water needed for the garden is only provided by a few wells.

When you enter the building you will see a lot of rooms, and in most of them, a pool is located in the middle. The door of one of these rooms is decorated with colored glasses and opens to the courtyard and displays sunlight with color images.

In one of the rooms, there is a long windproof that you can visit. One of the most important parts of this vestibule building is the part called ‘Hashti” in which the water and wind have comprised the most attractive possible combination.

Inside this building, there is a series of water-filled ponds that, with the combination of wind, cool air is transferred from below the winding to the halls and where the king stays. That is why the building is called the summer mansion.

It has a tall wall of clay around the gardens, which has a watch-out garden, and in the past was occupied by a guard to guard the garden and the surrounding area.
